Kaka Confirms He Will Not Renew Orlando City Contract

Kaka has announced he will be leaving Orlando City at the end of the 2017 MLS season.

“As you all know, my contract with Orlando City ends this year. My final decision is not to renew,” Kaka said.

Kaka said his “first cycle” with the club is over, but he can see himself returning one day as an ambassador, general manager or coach.

Kaka said his announcement was “just for that,” not mentioning retirement and leaving open the possibility of playing one more year in his native Brazil, among other options.

The Lions’ captain will conclude his MLS career when Orlando City hosts the Columbus Crew Sunday at 5 pm.

Orlando City majority owner Flavio Augusto da Silva and CEO Alex Leitao sat on either side of Kaka during the announcement and thankss him for his contributions to the club.

“This is your home and these doors will always be open to you. This is your home and your name will always be honored in this building,” Augusto da Silva said.

Overall, Kaka scored 25 goals and provided 19 assists in 77 games with Orlando, but failed to get them to the MLS playoffs during his time with the club.

He was a three-time MLS All-Star and leaves as Orlando’s all-time leader in assists.
